Our curriculum strives to balance academic and social preparation for Kindergarten with cultivating a love for learning. We believe that every child should enjoy being a kid, and early education should infuse fun, promote exploration, and inspire curiosity. We want all of our little heroes to laugh, express themselves, ask questions, and be heard. Our preschool aims to provide the type of environment that a loving home would provide any child, a place where they are known and cherished for their unique gifts, a place of safety and joy. Our curriculum is designed to give children the early tools they need to be successful in and out of the classroom.
Our academic curriculum prepares children for Kindergarten by prioritizing play, exploration, curiosity, and a love for learning. Children will be introduced to all academic concepts including but not limited to reading, writing, math, daily living skills (like cooking and caring for living spaces), science and social studies, and these will be taught in fun, engaging ways. At Little Heroes we believe that the gifts of childhood should be harnessed to cultivate an intrinsic love for learning and our thematic curriculum is designed to engage and excite various types of learners.
Our program also includes an introduction to the fundamentals of social and emotional learning. Our academic scope and sequence includes a parallel alignment with CASEL, which focuses on concepts such as: self-awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision making, and social awareness. Through emotional vocabulary building, our Little Heroes have the opportunity to experience an environment where feelings are identified and talked about regularly. We give children the tools to begin to communicate their needs in positive and healthy ways.
Poor nutrition in early child development can lead to loss of developmental potential and so Little Heroes strives to provide a fun introduction to healthy eating and responsible food choices. All children receive a breakfast and afternoon snack commensurate with dietary needs as outlined in the parental information document. Children are encouraged to be curious about various healthy food options in order to ensure that their bodies receive the fuel it needs to learn best.
Little Heroes also provides introductory lessons in music, art, foreign language (Spanish) and dance. With careful planning and individualized support, all little heroes will have an opportunity to explore each of these topics in fun and exciting ways that match their individual needs. We believe that fine arts and cultural exploration give children the exposure they need to experience learning in a whole new way.
